A prominent member of Liberal Party (LP) and former Congressman in Leyte reportedly purchased a 115 million-peso mansion in Ayala-Alabang, the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) said on Friday.
VACC said the former labor leader started his political career as party list representative, and joined Liberal Party after his party (Waray Waray) lost during the 2010 elections. The former congressman served from 2010 to 2013 under LP banner but lost during re-election.
VACC spokesperson Atty. Arturo Braganza refused to name the former solon and said they are still collecting more evidence of corruption and will file a case in due time.
The group believes that the fund used in buying the ex-solon’s new house was part of lost Yolanda funds, as the ex-congressman has no means to buy such expensive house.
Braganza said, the ex-congressman played a big part in receiving and distribution of funds and relief goods during the course of Yolanda typhoon. The lawyer also noted that former Interior Secretary mar Roxas assigned the ex-congressman to handle most of the relief goods and funds in Southern Leyte.
OXFAM and the World health Organization recently reported that more than 60% of funds donated to typhoon Haiyan victims were lost and wasted.
The government of Pres. Duterte is trying its best to recover those lost funds in order to help Yolanda victims who are still suffering more than six years after the tragedy.
