National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) has arrested Dioscoro Hontiveros and his wife, Jasmin Pasco Hontiveros for collecting more than 54 million pesos through pyramid scam.
The couple has been on NBI wanted list for over six months and were finally spotted and arrested in Santiago City, Isabela where they were hiding since October 2016.
Dioscoro, first cousin of Senator Risa Hontiveros, started his illegal operation on September 2016 in Quezon City. According to complaints filed by victims at Quezon City Police office, the couple asked each victim an investment of twenty to sixty thousands pesos and promised for 10% return on investment (ROI) every week.
A certain “Sally”, one of the victims said that she made over five thousand pesos revenue on the first week, but Dioscoro failed to give her an interest after two weeks. Dioscoro then asked her to invest 60,000 pesos more. The couple disappeared in Quezon City on October 2016.
Victims started to appear at Quezon City Police office on November 2016. The couple had collected around 54 million pesos from more than 300 victims.
Six of the victims have identified the couple after they were brought to QCPD. They are now facing multiple counts of syndicated estafa.
